Covid’s Lessons on Climate: Listen to Science and fight Racism

June 24 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Craig Altemose will speak to two lessons we must learn from the COVID-19 about climate change. The first being that we ignore expert guidance – whether public health professionals or climate scientists -- at our peril. To do so, climate catastrophe awaits us as surely as did the pandemic. The second lesson is how the racial justice dimensions of the Covid-19 pandemic shed light on the climate movement's task to advance an explicitly anti-racist climate agenda. Finally he will share his thoughts on, and his organization's plans for, where the movement should head from here to advance a just and sustainable future.

Craig S. Altemose is the founding Executive Director of Better Future Project, which organizes communities, campuses, and coalitions to address the climate crisis through its programs: 350 Massachusetts, Divest Ed, and Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW). Before starting BFP, Craig co-founded and led Students for a Just and Stable Future, a statewide student network that engaged students at more than 15 Massachusetts universities on climate policy. Craig holds a B.A. in International Relations from Eckerd College, an M.P.P. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
