Asylum Seekers Share Their Experiences

July 6, 2019 @ 10:15 am - 12:15 pm

Speakers from the LGBT Asylum Task Force in Worcester will join Racial Justice Rising to share their stories.

Saturday, July 6, at the First Congregational Church, 43 Church Street, Greenfield
10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – doors open at 9:45
Light snacks and child care available

The LGBT Asylum Task Force supports and advocates for LGBTQI immigrants who are fleeing persecution in their home countries. The Task Force, a ministry of Worcester’s Hadwen Park Congregational Church, UCC, provides safe housing and access to pro bono legal, medical, and mental health resources for their guests until they can legally work to support themselves.

The asylum seekers are mostly people of color and often from minority religions, and at times they face situations that they did not expect in their sanctuary country. This presentation will delve into some of these instances and how they have worked to overcome them.

Free child care – RSVP to email@racialjusticerising.org with number & ages of children.

This program is supported in part by grants from the Amherst, Ashfield, Buckland, Conway, Charlemont-Hawley, Deerfield, Gill, Greenfield, Hadley, Heath, Montague, New Salem, Northfield, Orange, Pelham, Shelburne, Wendell, and Whately Cultural Councils, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
