Change the MA state flag and seal, Shelburne Falls meeting
April 18 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pmFree
IS IT TIME TO CHANGE THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE FLAG & Seal?
Local State Senators Adam Hinds and Jo Comerford and local State Representatives Natalie Blais, Lindsay Sabadosa, Susannah Whipps, and Paul Mark – and many others across the state – are sponsoring a resolution to change our state flag.
State symbols portray the official image of the state to its residents and to the nation and the world at large. All 50 states have official flags and seals. In recent years, two of them in particular – those of Mississippi, which incorporates the Confederate battle flag, and Massachusetts, which features a Colonial broadsword hanging over the head of a Native American man – have come under sustained criticism as official symbols of white supremacy. Symbols have weight; they have meaning; they have power.
Votes to support this resolution are on this year’s town meeting warrants in Buckland, Shelburne, Colrain, Conway, Greenfield, and many other towns in the region and state.
