Parents, Caregivers, & Children: Join our Call to Abolish ICE

July 20, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The deadline to reunite families was this past Tuesday, yet less than half of the families under the age of 5 have been reunited (http://time.com/5336857/family-separation-border-crisis-children-reunited/) The Massachusetts senate and house have also still not passed the 4 pro immigrant rights provisions.

We must continue to bear witness to this crisis and push the demand that ICE reunite the families, stop the inhumane practice of locking up immigrant families, stop any plans to build family detention camps on military bases, pass the 4 Immigrant Rights Provisions with the Mass Budget, and close down existing family detention facilities.

The week of July 16, as part of the National Week of Action, where there will be mobilization of nannies, childcare providers, teachers, parents and other caregivers across the country to send a powerful message denouncing the detention and separation of immigrant children and families, and the “zero tolerance” policy and mass prosecutions that have caused the current crisis at the border.

We are hoping to assemble for about an hour at the lawn where we will list our demands, sing some songs, and yell some chants. We are not calling for the closure of the Greenfield Detention Facility but rather for all detention facilities to close and for ICE to be defunded. We are grounded in the demands of the Pioneer Valley Workers Center immigrant organizing committee.
